Please tell me you know of a magical little tool texture called Nodraw, slap it on any face that will never been seen by a player. it also helps to use the hint brushes/do a normal vvis compile so you have decent portal flow. You would be surprised how robust the source engine is, you just need to have decent map flow and visual occluders so where every little detail on a map isn't being rendered at once, it plays hell with FPS and makes the bsp compier want to cry.

I'm on a school computer right now so I can't sneak a peek at the .vmf or post any examples of work that I've got lying around. I'll add sauce later, if you're impatient google de_rostok although I don't have a recent file up on the esea site.
